ESL Instructor

Location: Montgomery, AL

We are currently looking for an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) Instructor to join our team! Individual will provide instructional support for eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week for 12 weeks of classes. 


Individual will directly support the mission requirement to instruct specially designed ESL curriculum covering a wide range of American English usage and U.S. Air Force (USAF) terminology to enable International Military Students (IMS) a successful completion of resident Professional Military Education (PME). Individual will provide communication skills and ESL adjunct faculty support to the International Officer School (IOS) Air War College (AWC) and Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) Preparatory Coursesí faculty, students, curriculum and program development. This support includes: instruction and instructional support in writing, research, and speaking skills to maximize learning; and subject-matter expertise specific to the mission set of the IOS. Other duties include: 

  •  Planning, preparation, instruction and assessment of the academic performance in communicative skills of approximately 125 IMS from over 70 nations attending AWC and ACSC preparatory courses annually
  •  Diagnosing IMSí communicative and English language requirements and propose, develop, and teach group/individualized ESL lessons to meet specific student needs (the courses will be taught using lecture and seminar group formats) 


  •  Bachelorís Degree in English as a Second Language (ESL), English, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Journalism, Communication, Education, or Language Arts from an accredited institution.
  •  Minimum of one year (or two college semesters) of professional experience teaching, tutoring, or advising international students
  •  Minimum of one year (or two college semesters) of teaching academic writing, reading, and speaking in a classroom environment
  •  Knowledge and ability to teach specifically designed ESL/Communication Skills lesson plans and materials covering a wide range of American English usage and US Air Force terminology for international military students
  •  Ability to evaluate studentsí academic performance on assignments and projects and provide students feedback for improvement
  •  Ability to use classroom technology for the delivery and application of ESL curriculum
  •  Prior experience as a USAF or DOD ESL instructor desired
  •  Experience in ESL instruction with adult learners is also preferred
  •  Demonstrated academic affinity for ESL instruction through pursuit of a Masters or PHD in the field, conducted relevant research, and/or published relevant academic works are also preferred
